The overabundance of 'guy-with-a-camcorder' producers/studios is what has cast the market into the current doldrums and the reason DVDs are selling in increasingly lower numbers for increasingly smaller amounts. People aren't getting a piece of the pie anymore, just crumbs, because there are so many noses in the trough nowadays and this affects the rates they can pay, the quality of talent they can attract, and the quality of product they can afford to put out.

Maybe things would be better if there were just a handful of studios run by people who knew what the fuck they were doing?

Having said that, the market will bear out what it can manage...I just get the feeling there's a cull looming on the horizon, a 'levelling of the land' if you will, and a lot of these also-ran studios are going to end up taking the big financial dirtnap.
