The best steak recipe starts at the butcher, where you get USDA Grade Prime beef.
You take it home, grind a little black pepper on it and throw on a pinch of seasalt.
Throw it on a hot grill for approximately three to four minutes per side.
Let the meat sit another three or four minutes on your plate while you serve a salad and pour some Makers Mark over ice, then eat it.
If you can't afford or find Prime, buy the best you can. Good beef is so much better without all that gack all over it. You might as well eat it with catchup.

I FUCKING love Ruth Crisp Steak House, so I've been experimenting with some *simple* steak recipes, so far my favorite is Teriyaki marinade, Garlic butter and salt, then you beat it like it owes you money, let it marrinate overnight and grill...
Mmmm good eats.
It's really apparent how much you love that place. Eat there often?
It's "Ruth's Chris Steak House" dude.
Actually no, after drinks and the Lobster bisk, dinner for two sets me back ~ $300. Thanks for the correction.

There are several great steakhouses in New York, but the best ones are prepared at home. Bornyo's got it down perfectly, especially about the need to make sure the grill is HOT. The only thing I do differently is add just a hint of cumin to the freshly ground pepper and sea salt (always sea salt, not regular.) And I'd wash it down with a dark beer and save the whiskey for after dinner.

Um, it's called Ruth's Chris Steak House for anyone out there looking to book a table. [EDIT: Sorry Papercut, didn't realize you'd already corrected that one]
I just like a nice, plain grilled steak, no fancy sauces, just sea salt and fresh ground pepper. If you're going to spend money on a good cut of meat, why mask the flavor with loads of sauce?
EDIT: Bornyo--bisk is the new jondra

Ruth's Chris is ass. They put a glob of butter on the steak before they serve them so they taste sweeter. also, they serve them on a sizzling plate (think Fajitas) so they are never cooked properly. You have to order them rare to get medium rare, etc. - it's very hit and miss.

A-1 is good for burgers and fries, if you're at a diner or like establishment. Peter Luger's Steak House makes a really nice sauce but, since I won't put it on my steak, and usually get the Baked Potato there, it's kind of redundant. If sauce is your thing, it is available in supermarkets in this area, and you can order it online HERE. You can order steaks, too, but that gets kind of pricey.

Prime rib or NY strip.Freshly ground black, green and red peppercorns. Celery salt. Grilled high until medium. If I use any sauce (rarely) it's HP Bold.

Houston's in Manhattan Beach is the best steakhouse in the South Bay.
Goddammit T, why the hell didnt you remind about that place instead of me making you drive like hell down the 91 to eat shitty Black Angus just cuz I happen to be holed up in the Holiday Inn next door? I forgot all about Houstons!!! Last time I was there had to be 2004...I think?? Anyway, that is where the next tactical briefing will take place, I will wheel my ass up the 405 if I have to...
And yes, Most Ruth Chris outlets blow whale snot when it comes to steak, but there is one here in Connecticut that is actually really good because the manager and the cook(s) dont follow the corporate guidleines verbatim...
One last tip from Chef Burglar, try marinating your steaks (especially t-bones) in a 50-50 mixture of A-1 and Ketchup...I shit you not, then BBQ them after about 2 hours soaking in that marinade...I am serious, dont scoff just cuz I said ketchup, trust me, your taste buds will go nuts...

Just found this one, think I'm gonna try it next, Beer YAY!
* 1 (12 fluid ounce) can or bottle beer * 3 cloves garlic, minced * 1 teaspoon black pepper * 1 cup oyster sauce * 1 lemon, juiced * 4 beef steaks * steak seasoning to taste
DIRECTIONS
1. In a shallow glass dish, combine the beer, garlic, pepper, oyster sauce and lemon juice. Mix well. Rub steaks on both sides with steak seasoning, and place in the marinade. Be sure to coat the steaks well. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours. 2. Preheat grill for high heat, and lightly oil grate. 3. Remove steaks from marinade, and discard marinade. Grill steaks for about 5 minutes on each side, or to desired doneness.
Anyone ever try that Beer feed cow steak? I think it's Japanese, forgot the name, they say it's to die for.

Sorry Burg. No marinade at all for me, much less A-1 or ketchup.
I agree A-1 tastes good, and I'll apply it to a Waffle House 1/4" thick ribeye, but thats my limit.
My sinful confession is preferring a ribeye above other cuts of beef. I buy them an inch and a quarter thick and cook them as described above. If someone squirted ketchup on them I'd cripple 'em.

I just noticed I typed catchup in my first post, then went into a tirade about "bisk".
In my defense, I was confused because some of you yankee fucks call it "catsup", while normal people call it "ketchup".
I didn't misspell it- rather I typed it in Esperanto.

I have been to Luger's and it was great, although the neighbourhood was pretty dodgy when I was there about 5 years ago. Our little foursome (which included two locals) stepped lively to the subway after dinner.
That's right around the time the first of a wave of yuppies, artists and others started crossing the East River fleeing the rents in Manhattan. Williamsburg's nicer now. It's not the Heights, but it's not Bed-Stuy either. Still, what you saw in 2002 was nothing compared to 1992.

Smith and Wolensky's Cajan Rib Eye is my favorite. I have no idea what else they have on the menu. I went to the S&W in New Orleans a few years ago thinking thats where they aged the Cajan Ribeye. I was disapointed to learn it was shipped in from the NY joint.
