That picture combined with the fact that its still way too expensive, makes me wonder why any studio would be in a hurry to go HD. Porn is cheaper now than it used to be, but if a switch to HD is made, than the price will go up again. Id rather pay less money for standard DVD.

hd dvd isnt even expensive, its the possibility of buying a betamax that is scaring people off.

I find the biggest turn-on can be seeing as clearly as possible into the lives of these pathetic, desperate, borderline illiterate adult industry "people." Obviously this approach is not going to cut much ice if you're into the escapism of features. But this probably accounts for some of gonzo's cut-to-the-chase appeal, as well as amateur porn for that matter.

This has been bought up so many times before...if it's going to be a disaster for porn, it's going to be a disaster for mainstream too...or haven't you ever seen a picture of Cameron Diaz's complexion when she hasn't got her game face on? It's just the usual 'Oh my God! The sky is falling! We're all DOOMED!' scaremongering that journalists do. People use tricks on SD cameras to hide imperfections and blemishes, and now they have new HD toys, they'll start coming up with tricks for them too. The people most at risk from the unflattering, all-seeing gaze of HD are gonzo performers. Bigger budget features eatures normally have a good MUA and a DP/Cinematographer on hand who know their respective asses from third base...gonzos, not so much.

But Hollywood can spend an extra million to digitally erase all blemishes from Tom Cruise's nose or Eva Longoria's ass. But I doubt that average Cheap-ass Joe Porner will do the same.

Like I said...if you have a reasonably competent MUA and DP/Cinematographer, you won't need to digitally erase anything.
The all-too-frequently repeated mantra of 'Don't worry, we'll fix it in post' is usually the famous last words of so many film productions, both large and small. Far better to take the time and effort to get it right while you're still shooting.

We're talking HD. The cinematography is different, the filters don't work the same way, etc etc etc. Those fellas still haven't had the time to adapt to the new technology.
Why do you think that Hollywood is still using conventional film over the Genesis HD camera?

I still think the industry has two and a half to three years before they need to decide on the future of DVD (if there *even*is*one*) and HD/Bluray or whatever new format war comes up. I have absolutely no faith in Sony anymore (UMD? Playstation 3? Betamax? See a pattern?) so I'll let the dust settle while the entertainment industry lets it play out.
I don't even watch porn on television sets anymore compared to two or three years ago (and I do have a HD tv) as I watch it all on computer where the format really doesn't matter given the resolution.

I think the relevance of HD in porn is greatly overstated. For the last year or so plenty of companies have released movies with 'Shot in HD' on the box. And released them on standard DVD.
Gonzo on HD is just a dumb idea and a pointless expense for the studios and fans IMO. Unless customers demand higher quality jerk material, what's the point other than winning a pissing match with the competition?

Yeah, you can tell just by looking at the whites of her eyes that it has been Photoshopped.
Of the major porn features that have been shot, mastered, and released in HD, I've yet to see any SD vs. HD comparison to the effects of 'But in the HD version, you can clearly see that starlet x has cottage cheese thighs, razor bumps and ass zits'.
If Wicked, DP et al can already make a go of it now, then they're only going to get better at it as time goes on and they get more experience.
Hmmm...is this a bad time time to mention that the Japanese are already testing Ultra Hi-Definition?
