Why cant people just quietly accept their fuck-ups and move on without announcing to the world that they are doing so??

I will answer my own question: It is a fallback strategy designed to counter the OBVIOUS pull/attraction/appeal of the thing the person is attempting to leave behind or quit.

It is time for honesty people...things like drugs (Pot, Meth, Crack, Heroin, pills), booze, "wanton-no holes barred-no responsibility" Sex, and especially SEX for MONEY, are powerful attractive things because they offer (temporary FUN amd pleasure and escape. They do! Everyone needs to first and foremost accept that. And when a person's life becomes out of control or damaged or fucked up because they indulged too much in these things or got hurt, they are FORCED to give them up...its called hitting rock bottom. A person has no choice but to turn away from these "fun" things and live differently, YET the appeal and the PULL and the ATTRACTION remain, such that the person struggles to NOT go back to them even though they want to...

Sierra (and many others like her) take the next step and ANNOUNCE in loud, boisterous terms with much bravado that they are "DONE! Through with that life and these things.." and by announcing it, they think they add a further incentive and safeguard to avoid relapsing and going back, that of public embarrasment and scorn (i.e. For the sake of all the OPINIONs and thoughts of the people who heard/read/kmow about their new vows of abstinencd and to change, they HAVE to keep themselves clean, otherwise, when they do give in and partake of their previous pleasures and fun, they look even WORSE in the eyes of others...)

This is why I do not support many forms of therapy or rehab or group help that people spend oodles of time and money on...they set people up for failure and make the fall even harder when it does happen...sobriety and abstinence and chastity are ONLY succesful (and RIGHT) when done SOLELY because the individual WANTS that for himself or herself...you cant do it for others, not even partially. YOU have to be the one to pull your ass out of the fire, clean yourself up...this doesnt mean that ALL forms of therapy or rehab or palliative measures are wrong or bad in my opinion, I just say that they MUST be truly of secondary standing and importance in the grand scheme of things.

In reality, most people, probably even sierra in this case, dont need to take the extreme (AND rather DIFFICULT position) of just flat out quitting and/or giving up all these "fun" things and screaming that to us, they just need a break, and to tone their future partaking and use down a few notches to par with their body's ability (and their mind's ability, whatever it is) to handle it appropriately.

A person who likes Meth, Booze, Heroin, and getting laid without any committment or obligation on their part, can find a happy equillibrium that allows them to indulge "a little", or a "few" times a month...just not all day, everyday, all year.

But that's why I am da burglar I guess...
