It's a bit of a pity he would say something so idiotic. I saw him interviewed before he was sworn in (there was a big flap when he asked to swear on the Koran) and he seemed quite intelligent and well spoken. Notwithstanding how liberal Minnesota is, this does not bode well for the re-election campaign. Quote:
Ellison also accused Vice President Cheney of being "the very definition of totalitarianism, authoritarianism and dictatorship."
Although he does have a bit of point here.

At one point I would have wanted to stone him. But the comparison isn't that far off the mark. Its become clear that there no real reason to invade Iraq and 9-11 was just a convienient justification. I'm done defending Bush and the republicans and will be dedicating my energies to supporting centrist democrats like Lieberman, Webb, Gulliani and Bloomberg.

Given the number of high profile Rudy supporters who have been popped for drug and hooker problems in the past month, it might be worth supporting him just to get a pass to the victory party!
Naahh. He'd just lock them up as soon as he got elected. Along with the rest of us pervs.

What Jim said- personally if it is between Rudy and Hillary- I 'll just vote for an independent. I honestly couldn't look at myself after voting for either.

See, I'd love to do that Cleetus. Believe me, I'd much rather vote Independent in that scenario. But after Ralph Nader and the debacle of 2000, I'd feel even worse if by voting for, say, Ron Paul, I threw the election to another Fascist like Bush or Rudy. So, if it came down to that, I'd have to hold my nose and vote for the dyke. I know I'd sleep better.

That's about it in a nutshell, plus there's been a few Coups in between. I pay it no mind, though. I'm only there a few months of the year, so as long as my houseboy keeps making my drinks, I'm happy. If a new government comes to power, I just buy them off with $24 worth of trinkets and beads, like a good New Yorker. LOL.

the coolest guy ive ever me t in my entire life was a chief from fiji, who did the sas route, sleeping in rivers, eating snakes, trying to elude other sas, and became head of u.n. security out of somalia during the 92 93 uprising, he continued on his career arc until he was running east africa, and now is running geneva and new york, his family tribe wanted him to come back to fiji to run the joint, he refused and has made an unbelievable life for himself, the guy is sick impressive and just one of my many memories is driving down a road in kenya towards lake naivasha passing through the grv and a kenyan cop stops us, we are drinking tusker in the car as this guy shows his credentials pulls a gun from the drivers side and we get waved through, meanwhile im going uh should i hide this beer, and the guy is fking laughing at me.
go fiji, and never fuck with a sas trained fijian who is also chief of his tribe, ever, yikes....
only reason im loaded enough to type this is i just lost 80 at cvs playing vid blackjack, and then WON 260 2 minutes later on consecutive double ups, im now going to drink and fall on mmy face, if i lose at online poker tonight you people are my benificiaries
(sas = sandhurst)

What state are you registered to vote in out of curiosity?
I wouldn't be that quick to discount voting for an independent. The voting process of the electoral college means only eight or ten swing states even really matter when it comes to the presidency. If you're in a state thats solid to vote for one party or the other go for an independent; it really doesn't matter and millions of people changing their votes could still not make a damn of a difference. Independent candidates can really use every vote they can at this point, especially if the two major parties offer total dogs.
If you're in a swing state do a bit of soul searching; are you in New York? If Hillary and Rudy run, which way would NY even go? Still with a Democrat?

Actually, both Cleetus and I live in New York. And even though the overwhelming likelihood is that both the State and the City will go Democrat no matter who's running, my memories of 2000 are too strong for me to throw away my vote.

National election NY is always Democrat- locals can sometimes surprise. Hillary will win NY hands down.
I'm actually an odd voter- although republican i do stray to vote for the better man or at least who i perceive as the better man.
For example I voted for Spitzer because I believe that he could really fix NY if he was allowed to do what he wanted- but of course he is getting screwded out of it because politicians are playing politics instead of running a government.

I think a candidate like Rudy who can peel off votes in the northeast and other liberal enclaves scares the crap out of Hillary. He might not win NY bu it will be competitive which means she has to spend assets where she doesn't want to. Rudy will pick a few Northeast states, possibly NJ. If he holds the Red states his margin of error gets bigger and Hillary's gets smaller.

The only Northeast state I can see Rudy winning is New Hampshire, with four electoral votes. It has the most active Republican operation in the region. He certainly will not win the powerhouses of New York, Massachusetts or New Jersey.
Vermont is solidly blue (they have a Socialist Senator for crying out loud.) Maine has a Democratic Governor, two Republican (women) Senators and two Democratic Representatives. Democrats have won the State's four electoral votes in the last four elections. My guess is they will in 2008 no matter who's on the ticket.
Connecticut has gone Democratic seven of the last twelve elections since 1960, including the last four. Although it has a Republican Governor, It has two Dems in the Senate and Four Dems (of five) in the House. I'd put any money that it's seven Electoral Votes go to the Dems.
Rhode Island is as Liberal as all Hell and a Dem would have to violate the Live Boy/Dead Girl Rule to lose it's three Electoral Votes.
Of course, all this assumes that Rudy and Hillary are going to be the nominees. I really don't see Rudy overcoming the opposition of the Jesus Freaks. And a Hillary/Obama deadlock might just throw it to a Dark Horse. There hasn't been a brokered Democratic Convention since 1960, but hey, you never know.
