...and here's me thinking this would be about the whole AVN/AdBrite/Pirate Bay scandal.

I'm really kind of stunned that, given the way sales are being cannibalised by online piracy, studios don't do more to fight it. For example, why not tell Fishbein that as long as AVN are financially supporting a pirate site via advertising, you won't be advertising in AVN, and furthermore will instead use the money to advertise in XBiz or with some other competitor.

Why is nobody picking up the phone and telling Mr. Marcus that as long as his forum is a home to piracy and password trading, then he won't be getting any work from their studio?

These are simple, quick, and cheap (as in no need to hire a lawyer to do anything) fixes...I guess too many studio owners are happy to just idly sit by and fiddle while Rome burns.

I'm really baffled why more isn't done to combat on-line piracy in the porn world...no one took the RIAA seriously until they started threatening lawsuits left and right and now look at on-line music piracy: its become such a fucking hassle its almost easier to just buy the material. I don't download anymore and perhaps one in five of my friends still do...when your friends get hit paying $3000 suits to settle with the RIAA, you take that shit seriously.

Piracy's been one of my points about the ineptitude of Free Speech Coalition...why have an entire organization get involved in messy fights and legal issues like obscenity that can (and) realistically be better solved on an individual case-by-case basis (not to mention the type of division an issue like that has)? (Oh yeah, also not to mention the countless hundreds of thousands of dollars used to unsuccessfully challenge 2257 as unconstitutional using an application of strict scrutiny to the statute when congress changes the law and basically negates any legal work done).

I don't know why they haven't taken the piracy issue and run with it and used it to transform their shitty organization into a first class group similar to how the RIAA did and setting up some sort of industry guideline and plan so AVN isn't running ads with known piracy forums. If they (FSC) claim to have problems fundraising why not demonstrate how FSC is spearheading the industry's fight against online piracy? A few e-mails from lawyers followed by a few well timed cease and desist letters could go a long way, raise some interesting publicity and be done on the cheap.

But they'll continue chasing after big legal beasts they don't have the capital or size to deal with and bit torrent and porn sharing sites will continue to flourish leading to an amazing feedback disintegrating any profits over the next few years.

And I'll wonder why I fucking bother with this business.
