Luke, given the situations you'll be shooting in I doubt you will ever use the longer focal lengths.

Also, a good shoe flash might not be a bad thing - built-in flashes typically aren't good for more than 6' feet or so whatever the manufacturer specs say (Nikon claims 39 feet - no way).

Carry a gray card. The lighting is likely to be so bad in some places a gray may save the day.

Put a UV/protective filter on the lens at all times, and a hood when possible.
