I've run into my share of coke that's claimed to be flavored like different things, but it always seems like it was added as a cutter and not really manufactured at a stage early enough in production to feel natural.

I'm sure its been done a hundred times throughout the history of coke and its just the media picking up on it again. I understand why its not done more: why permanently flavor your coke some random flavor where only 10% of its consumers might actually enjoy it?

Still, it would be fun to try and see if its actually well done.
