How trusting are you. Consider:

1. That is not a valid Visa #
2. No Australian bank issues a Visa with that BIN
3. Pretend his account was coopted and someone ran $40 or $50M of debt against it. You're willing to suspend belief and assume he would be willing to protect you and pay off the card instead of report any instance where his card number might have been maliciously run across the web?

Sounds to me like this "loser" got more out of the whole exchange than you did.
