Organ banks already have to type organs by blood type and who-knows-what-else to avoid rejection so it's not a huge step to make sure that organs with one HIV variant only go to a person with a close-enough variant. The other possibility it just that I was completely wrong on HIV variant problems. I couldn't find the reference on NIH with a casual search when posting the first note: I'll try harder tomorrow.
