The Cardinals don't need to be better than the Yankees. They only need to be better than the Brewers. When Carpenter and Mulder come back, they almost certainly will be.

It's true that the Cardinals lost 2 of 3 to the Royals. It's also true that the Cardinals took 2 of 3 from the A's.
