Remind me again when country sheriffs started reviewing judicial sentencing decisions?
If the sheriff gets into a contempt order from the judge and appeals he's just cost himself a bunch of points with whoever he has to convince that he has the right to reduce a sentence because he looked at the trial court's sentence and decided it was unfair.
While it is certainly not the sheriff's place to overrule the judge, the concensus of CA attorneys was that her sentence was out of line with the norm. Not one of the few attys who supported the sentence could cite another case where such an amount of time was given for a similar offence.
That said, the only reason the sheriff alluded to the sentence was that it was his only possible rebuttal.
Personally from all that has been reported I think BOTH the sheriff AND the judge have to go.
