I'm arguing condoms are no better than a secondary measure, far behind testing in importance. Condoms might indeed be a false sense of security.

I think there are very few condom-only girls. There are only a couple of video companies they can work for. More common I think is a girl having a short list of performers she's willing to work bareback with.

Were there any condom-only girls who had traceable contact to any of the HIV+ cases then absolutely they should be quarantined.

Smartt posted an obit list a couple of weeks ago. It’s almost entirely gay porn. Condoms may help but don’t seem sufficient. Over the last ten years the number of HIV infections in straight porn seems around one per year, mainly from two outbreaks. There are rumors Barbara Doll developed AIDS but with that possible exception I think there have been no AIDS cases resulting from performing in straight porn since the early 1990s at the latest, well before AIM and any current practice (and John Holmes, at least, got into gay sex in prison as well as drugs).

Also, see Kami’s comments in this thread about labdat and how performers can verify AIM results. This is how Autumn Rayne got in trouble with fake HIV tests: she didn’t verify the test (this what the Marc Wallice outbreak was about). People lie.

All things considered the practice of barring HIV+ performers seems to have worked amazingly well, certainly better than the gay porn practice emphasizing condoms. I'd rather focus on further improvements in a system that usually works rather than switching to one that doesn't.

(if condoms became universal nobody would continue to spend money on tests; I think they are either/or propositions)
