The host, Mike Rowe, does a good job with it and also with his series "Dirty Jobs".

i am when i remember it...i am a few episodes back...hoping for a marathon. Great beautiful show. I love the computer animations that show how the pots work and shit. It is such a tribute to opportunity and drive and makes me look like a total pussy for what i do for a living.Some of the boats look like total asylums (the boat that did the flour bomb stunt) The only thing that would make the show better is if it came with a scratch card full of what must be amazing foul odors on ship.
Waiting for the one ship to all pull a train on the captain's Norwegian wife.
Definately compelling watching for a change...

Yes, great show. Watched it since the first season, this is the 3rd, right? It's improved every year. They're all chain smoking, black coffee drinking, sleep deprived maniacs, God love 'em.

Those guys are underpaid. Grinding, dangerous, uncomfortable work. Totally compelling tv, though. Far superior to, say, American Chopper. My biggest guilty pleasure, though, is "Miami Ink." A nighttime soap-opera with tattoos. Really, really great tattoos...

I love deadliest catch, and pretty much every other show on Discovery. The best form of reality TV around.
I also love Dirty Jobs, Mythbusters, It Takes a Thief, and the Planet Earth mini-series is absolutely the best nature doc I've ever seen.

This is definitely one subject I'll agree on.. Deadliest Catch and Mythbusters.. AND Man vs Wild.. are 3 of the best shows on TV. Screw the 200 different Law & Order/CSI varieties, turn on Discovery Channel instead. Kari Byron's hot.. though her art work at http://www.karibyron.com is a bit  headshrinker type material. I think Kari's FHM photos made it onto this forum a while back?

They need to just get it over with and come out with a show titled "I Want to go to Alaska and Fucking Die." From that Timothy Treadwell movie to "Into the Wild" to all these Dangerous, Deadliest shows, they're just all about danger and death up here.
The only people I know who have died up here have died from old age, car accidents or suicide. The most common "Alaskan" way to get hurt is to hit a moose with your car. Another common way of naturally selecting yourself out of the Alaskan population is "high marking" with a snow machine. This means having a contest to see who can leave the highest tracks up a steep mountain on a snowmachine. How do you die from it? Ooops, you cause an avalanche.
As Timothy Treadwell showed, you have to try pretty hard to get yourself eaten by a bear. And that "Into the Wild" kid just didn't think things through very well. You can get by just fine up here without putting yourself in immediate danger.

This actually does happen rather often, usually to the homeless. Although it was a fairly big story earlier this year when a stripper from the local Crazy Horse passed out on someone's front porch and froze to death.
For the natives (ie. Eskimo's) who go bar-hopping downtown, simply crossing the road seems to be a particularly hazardous situation. It's like they have some sort of internal timing mechanism that causes them to stumble out into a crosswalk just as the light turns green for opposing traffic.
Me and a friend had to help a wasted native woman out of a crosswalk in the middle of this past winter who was completely laid out. The kicker was that she was clearly wearing adult diapers under her clothing. And she wasn't old, either. You have to have a serious drinking agenda planned out if you decide to go out wearing adult diapers. Although, it is probably a good deterrent against rape if you're wearing a diaper full of piss & shit. The rape & murder of native Alaskan women is also a big problem up here.

WTF? -a deckhand falls off a stack and dies, and DSC runs a brief photo of him falling. I thought it was interesting that the Hanson brothers had a middle brother that apparently never wants to be on film...i had not heard that before. I was not real happy with the beginning of the season but it has gotten great. It was amazing the extent of damage to the boats from the storms. best show on tv

Sig gets the boat stuck in ice at the dock...stupid Scandinavians. The youngest Hillstrand almost kills his friend with a crab pot. Imagine that injury report... "Scott's friend (decapitation)...injured reserve..." ...all done with zero alcohol. Imagine what happens when they get into port.

Keith on the Wizard may have escaped throat cancer, but SCUBA diving under his own boat rang his bell...hard.

I missed #2, but #3 was a real barn-burner:
Most of the show was devoted to the sinking of the Katmai, which was actually fishing for cod a long ways away near Adak Island.
The film crew rode along with the USCG as they rescued four guys who spent a day in a raft at about 20 degrees. Seven others didn't make it.
As usual, Captain Keith cried. Then he got lonely and tried to phone Captain Phil, still in the hospital, except the phone cut out. And Sig didn't tell his dudes about it at all. But he did ask to have the camera turned off after he got done talking about it.
