Hey Everybody,

I'm doing some productions (yeah... smells like a newbie right there, right??) and I need some advice.

Can anybody suggest a camera that's got Firewire, MiniDV, some image stabilizaion for my sucky cam techniques, and will shoot well for indoor adult films? I need the 3 CCD types, right? Anybody know of any of these for around $1000 that are good, reliable cameras with some auto features, but also with manual overrides?

Thanks

First of all, you won't find ANY (new) 3CCD MiniDV cameras for $1000 or less. You need to adjust your budget.

With that said, my recommendation is the Canon GL-2. Should set you back about $2000 but definitely worth it.

Hey Guys...

Thanks for the laughs (Betamax) and the good advice. Now that I learned a little more about cameras, there is something I should have put in: I'm marketing them online only, but want to see if I can put a couple out there for some of you established guys too. Does that make a difference in cameras? I mean I don't need HD or anything for that, right? I was checking out the Panasonic AG-DVC20 and the Panasonic PVGS500. They were close to $1K. The GL-2 is a pretty sweet machine though. I like it a lot.

Ok, and to answer the question... yeah. I'm incorporated, and understand most of the basics:

*Age documentation
*Model releases
*AIM Testing
*Obscentity Laws
*Credit Card Procs robbing you blind

Those are the biggies, right? Anything I'm missing that's not part of running a normal business? (this is my 3rd busines, including a small, underground strip club in Manhattan I ran that um... tunred in to a bit of an extras place)

And thanks for the good advice... I'm a total newbie with a lot of this stuff.

GL-2 is the way to go if your not going HD. Great camera, easy to use, and good manual features. If you look around you should be able to get a decent one used for 1500 or less.

A used camera can be a nightmare or the best investment ever made. If this kid does not know anything about cameras then he does not know if he is getting the shaft or not.

Oh great, another creepy fuck with who needs a small personal loan to start up his internet porno business.

Get some skills first, then worry about shooting dude.

Isn't the Canon GL-2 just a little outdated? The Canon XL-2 Canon XL-2 is about $1200 more and probably worth the extra dough these days. I haven't heard of an update to either, but I don't follow video hardware as much as I used to.

I haven't any experience whatsoever on what hardware most web-shooters are using, but to limit your budget to units which are essentially Handi-cams is fucking stupid. Drop the dough for something a little more professional.

Well, that's quite the love/hate response... ha ha. What else could I expect here?

Good advice. I am increasing the budget for the camera. Thanks.

PS: Not entirely creepy, as I *am* married to one of the stars and am NOT shooting gonzo/POV.

Agreed! That's why she only works with me. We are using other actors for the other scenes. Strictly as production and no participation on our parts.

If you plan to be doing this for money, and for a while, it's HD or don't bother.

You wont be able to give away SD in a few years.

HD for web is pointless without an HD monitor, IMO. Most people, let alone porn fans, will not afford themselves the luxury.

For now? Sure.

Near future, you wont be able to buy a SD monitor or SD TV.

It's just the way technology goes and, if you want your material to have some continued resale value in the future, it's worth planning for that day now.

If you own a computer (which I assume you do since you are posting here), chances are your monitor is capable of high definition resolution, since almost all monitors sold in the last decade are able to display more than 480 lines of resolution.

Tada! Problem solved, you DO own a HiDef monitor so you CAN watch porn in HD and it didn't cost you a penny extra.

And, yes, there are dozens of websites that provide HD porn for sale, download, or VOD

Now let's hope your just ignorant and not stupid (see signature line).
