Jessica has been in the business for several years and has friends who want to help her out.

Lara is new and apparently not very friendly. That may be a cultural thing, but nonetheless her list of friends in the US before the outbreak was very short.

Finally, directing is something new to both; there is a lot to learn. Jewel may think Jessica is both willing to work at learning and able to learn; Lara may be another matter altogether.
