Hey Don - a quick question if I may - and this is a serious question not meant to rile you up or elevate your agitation threshold. Why have you taken it upon yourself to bring things up from the past and fight other people's battles - people who I am certain are quite capable of fighting for themselves - assuming there is, indeed, a reason to do so or just let things drop. Did Mike South ever do anything to YOU to bring out this Lockwood-esque rant against him? To make it clear, I am not saying if I support or condemn what you are doing...but WHY are you taking it upon yourself to do it? Is it even any of your business? Just wondering...
Hi Bob! (Bob's one of my favorite reviewers) I don't mind the question even if I think it could've been worded a bit more neutrally from someone not taking sides. I guess the answer would be a bit more complex but distilling it down as best I can. My answer has no bearing on the truthful comments made and it shouldn't matter what my motivations are but here goes:
Mike goes around shitting on half the industry, sometimes for justified reasons, more often to stroke his ego to a handful of slavering followers. By doing so, he opened the door for people to return the favor. XPT, like ADT and the myriad of other internet forums, is a place where people discuss matters of interest to them. My initial comment in the Bone thread was supportive of Mike, albeit with some pointed comments that he didn't appreciate (espcially because they were true). As he has in the past, he made some dismissive comments and ill founded personal attacks that had nothing to do with the matter at hand; provoking a response.
Having read a handful of supportive comments about Mike on some forums, much like ones I myself used to make before his nature became more apparent, I thought it was fair to warn others about some of his behaviors WITHOUT his usual spin attached. Does it matter to anyone other than those directly impacted? It should since compartmentalizing serves no one (to expand the idea that others can fight their own fights, should no one speak out when someone does another wrong?). As far as the jab comparing what I wrote to ANYTHING Lockwood has written in the past, I suggest you haven't read anything of his even passing for coherent and all of it self serving to him.
But again, taking your analogy a step further; should no one have spoken out when Lockwood assaulted Gram? How about when someone was infecting others with AIDS/HIV a few years back? I don't recall seeing you question any of them or even anyone on this forum to essentially "mind your own business" when they made comments about someone in the industry (which is how your post comes across on first reading by a guy headed for bed). That you picked the forum to ask the question rather than send me an email was a curious choice but not unwelcome considering I believe what I wrote.
So, as much as any internet forum is a place for discussion about topics of interest to any of us; yes, it was as much my business as any other comments made here or elsewhere.
Take care and thanks for asking!

Don: You answered my question fine. I was just getting the feeling that things were getting a bit out of hand and it was appearing to become a more personal vendetta - on BOTH sides.
You may be right regarding the two of us taking things personally. Mike doesn't like to be held accountable for his actions or questioned so he resorts to name calling. I'm not keen on self-important industry fringe types like Mike calling me names for asking questions or when their half cocked actions result in putting others in the crosshairs of stalkers or governmental authorities.

As for your mention of the Gram/Lockwood confrontation and the need for someone to speak out...why? I'm not convinced that it is necessary as their actions speak for themselves and, since the vid clips of the assault were readily available on many sites (and quite entertaining, I must add, in a macabre way) going to someone's defense (or offense) after the fact probably won't make a bit of difference either way other than to provide it with additional publicity. Also, Lockwood is Lockwood; Gram is Gram. I don't know of anyone who is surprised at what took place. And thanks again for your answer to my question. db
I would use the famous quote about remaining silent in the face of danger ("First they came for...and I remained silent...") as it covers a lot of ground here. By assaulting Gram, Kurt took a major step towards "proving" he was a danger to others and not just a windbag who spouted off online about hurting people. By remaining silent, it gives him and those who hire/associate/hang out with him the green light to continue getting worse. Since the event, Kurt has calmed down; largely due to those around him providing him incentives to do so based on what they saw as a train wreck waiting to happen. Do you REALLY think he would have changed had no one said anything? Would you appreciate it if you were the next target, an emboldened Kurt putting a pistol in your face since the thrill of standing up to another critic needed to be furthered for the same adrenaline rush?
Conky has a point; this is a forum for discussing porn, those in it, those directing it, those commenting on it, and the fringes as well. To "get it", take a step back and consider how boring life would be if there were no critical commentary. I'm not sure what other forums you belong to but one of the best things about XPT is that it's a place where the darker sides of porn can be freely discussed without the sanitization squad banning you, locking your postings since they might hurt someone's feelings, or expecting members to be so self censoring that very little can be discussed at all (ie: boring). If anything, I'm on the tamer side of the spectrum compared to some of these guys but that doesn't mean they don't routinely make exceptionally valid points about the industry that wouldn't be considered acceptable at some of the major forums online.
I'm glad you're here though and wish others would join that have something to offer. I know you have more background in the industry that you can't openly share but the "they suck" attitude foisted on XPT'ers by a rival website has proven to be falser than their claims of harmony (they just cover things up better).
