I agree that no-one should be banned just because they suck. XPT isn't a popularity contest; that's totally against the tenor of the place. It's deliciously ironic that Raoul's persistent sucking-up is a big reason for his unpopularity. This guy took pandering to a new, nauseating level by referring to Willie as "my Irish brother" while referencing every bit of board lore he could dig up. It seemed he would stop at nothing to ingratiate himself with those he perceived as senior members.

So, if this place is to stay free and fair, there have to be lines that must be crossed to warrant a ban. Fatman irritated the hell out of me, but I didn't advocate his banning until his piracy boasts. Jeff himself tolerated massive political rows with Phlog and only acted when Phlog got personal about serious real-life issues.

The way to deal with an annoying poster is to flame them to a crisp until they either fall into line, leave with their tail between their legs, or melt-down and spam the place thus justifying a ban. If we can manage it with Smartt, we can do it to anyone. In Raoul's case, I think the replying to everything with stupid pictures schtick strayed far enough into spam territory to make Gia's action completely justified.

(side note: appending "spam notices" to all of a particular user's threads is a pretty clear-cut case of spamming too.)
