A good encyclopedia makes a great starting point. In this case you can use it the to look up texts at various schools (although unfortunately that book doesn't appear to be online). None seem to suggest he played any role in discovering that some diseases, as opposed to microorganisms, fail to arise spontaneously.

In any case, to the original point: you cannot contract AIDS from thin air or a toilet seat: you must have contact with someone who already carries the HIV virus.
