Well I was referring to the California bar, which many of those who "would know" tell me is the hardest one. I'm sure I'll hear all about it at his graduation.

I believe 60% of first time bar takers pass. The fact that California allows students who did not attend an ABA certified law school to take the bar artifically drives the pass rate down. Its certainly one of the toughest, if not the toughest exam, but a first time taker with an history of academic success is good candidate to pass.
