Rodney is a romantic. I can't imagine him ever choking a girl or enjoying watching it. He's one of the "girl goes on pedestal; not pedestal goes in girl" guys. I bet he would quit porn and do other work before shooting a scene where he grabs a girl’s throat and slaps her around hard.

I don’t think his quote bashes JM so much as it bashes AVN for liking puke/choke porn. The reality is that Rodney is never going to spend as many ad dollars on AVN as JM and so Rodney isn’t going to win.

All of that said: I don’t think he’s been at the top of the heap for the last few years. Part of it is his preference to shoot with a very small crew, part of it is the lack of readily talent available in Seattle where he lives & works (putting together several girls for a shoot takes more effort), and part of it is that the competition is a much better than it used to be. But I also think Wolf Savage may have had a lot to do with keeping Rodney trying new things and avoiding creative rat holes; Wolf may have tugged Rodney in more mainstream directions and focused Rodney on doing products consumers wanted as opposed to things Rodney wanted to experiment on.
