Couldn't the same be said of most daytime TV shows? It's entertainment for the hillbilly masses so I'll have to defer to Mike's expertise in knowing who they are geared to (people much like himself).

Hmmm, while I'm sure Mike has a degree in marketing to back up his observations, a lot of people watch these shows. While I'm not one of them, their audiences collectively contain millions of potential customers and if you want to be in the public eye, going on such shows isn't the worst thing you could do. Even if you only gained a few hundred loyal fanboys by going on such a show (a miniscule number compared to the numbers watching), it could be worth the trouble financially. Will they try and make you look bad? Yeah, but you'll potentially be the one laughing all the way to the bank (Hyapatia Lee used to go on talk shows a lot and was therefore in huge demand as a feature dancer and performer IIRC; Belladonna was made to look like a sad, misguided youth by Barbara Walters a few years back and she's enjoying the most success of her career; those are but a few of the gals that've tried this route).
Mia, whatever you decide to do, keep in mind that free advice is usually worth the price you paid and the internet is full of "experts" willing to guide you off a cliff-free of charge. You can plan out your career best by deciding exactly what you want out of it and then making it happen. There are pitfalls to national exposure but lower sales are not going to be one of them.
