So, I’ve always romanticised birds like ducks and geese because I was always under the impression they were monogamous animals who mate for life. Like, you hear those stories about a hunter shooting one of these majestic creatures and as they fall to their death their mate will fly down with them giving the hunter a nice two-for-one.Well I guess I was grossly mistaken because I just wittnessed a rather messy love triangle between the pair of duck lovers that swim in the pool outside my window. I used to think they were so sweet, so in love, as they swam around and shat in their chlorine-filled pond. I remember one night I heard the female quacking up a storm and I knew right away she was calling her mate. A few minutes later she finally shut up and I saw the two of them snuggling side by side. AWWW... Well, my illusions of unconditional love were shattered today when I looked out my window and saw a new male duck in the pool, trying to mount the female as the other male went ballistic and faught to get him off. It was pretty messy, like a wild-life version of Jerry Springer or something. I got my camera out and started filming but it wasnt such a great view from my window so I ran down stairs to get a closer look. I guess my presence scared away the intruder duck and I was left filming what was left of a broken, bitter relationship between the two mallards. I tried consoling them about it but they just werent having it. Hopefully time will heal their wounds.
