PORT CHESTER — A Port Chester man is accused of striking his 17-year-old stepdaughter with a broomstick, breaking it over her arm, because he was upset she failed an English class, police said today.
Lance Tennyson, 40, of 35 Eldridge St. was charged yesterday with second-degree assault, a felony, after turning himself in at police headquarters, said Port Chester Lt. James Ladeairous.
The girl reported the incident March 17.
"She said the stepfather came into her room earlier in the day and questioned her about doing bad in school," Ladeairous said. "He grabbed her by the hair and pulled her to the floor, grabbed a broom and swung it at her."
Her arm was left cut and bruised.
Westchester Child Protective Services has been notified, and the girl is staying with other relatives, Ladeairous said.
Tennyson is free without bail. He is due back in Port Chester court on April 19.
