That's exactly what I meant. The context. The memories of the state of mind you were in when you listened to a song for the first time. The things you used to do with a certain song in the background. And the realization that you're a different person now, for better or for worse.

For me the memories aren't usually about 1st time I heard the song, but "I hear ya", anthropophobiac.
In the 70s, I couldn't stand "disco", and CHRIST if my sister wasn't playing it ALL THE FUCKING TIME. Now when I hear a familiar one of those lame disco songs, I've been known to actually turn up the volume.
It isn't about the music - or in the case of disco, lack there of - but ALL about the memories. Songs I hold on to almost always remind me of some place, some thing or some girl related to when the song was playing back then ... the good and the bad.
