It was in adult Christian context I was using it {as opposed to that done with newborns} - refreshing and rebirth.

Most of Christian concepts have Jewish, Greek and/or Egyptian origins [or at least parallels].

Baptism was initially a Jewish concept/ritual. The Essenes, of whom John was a likely member, were great proponants of ritual baths. The only ritual baths that I know of which remain in Judaism are for women.

If anyone watched 'Sex & the City', when the 'jewish' one converted to Judaism the last step was her going into the "Mikvah". [and the shot of Kristen's butt]

I don't recall her rushing from there to post hurtful slander about her friends, colleagues and co-workers on her website. That just might be limited to converts originally from the Southern Hemisphere.
