Dead-on accurate thread. It parallels my point earlier about Random's Thread asking what Taryn Thomas charges for being a "Provider", and I dont mean of Liquified feces. Anyone who pays the typical rates that Pornstars charge for sex in the escorting arena is either a stalker of that particular chick, or is completely ignorant of what else is available on the meat market(s) in the civilian/non-porn star sex worker populations. If Lisa Sparxx wants to charge 1500 bucks for an "hour's" worth of "providing", that is just nuts. There are countless whores out there available for between 500 to 750 bucks an hour (with price breaks for longer sessions) that completely blow away 90% (or more) of the porn chicks who are "providing". It's absurd. And dont give me this esoteric "Oh, but it's a FANTASY that she is selling and the pervert/stalker is buying...you dont get that with civilian whores." Trust me, do your research, ask around and I guarantee you will find a nice, non-pornstar hooker/escort who is gorgeous and (probably) much nicer in terms of attitude and personality. If you must, make a cutout of Lisa Sparxx' face and tape it to your nonporn hooker's face. The cost savings, and ensuing laughs, more than justify your dream NOT coming true. There is ONE porn star exception to this rule that I have personally met, but it has very little to do with her looks being lesser/greater than typical high class nonporn escorts.

I'm pretty sure that's just a negotiating position/rate for the gullible. She advertised on craigslist a few years back for a fifth of that rate, and her stock certainly hasn't gone up since then.
I doubt it, although you are not entirely wrong. Everything in this type of business equation/relationship IS in fact negotiable (even if they say up front, "My rates are NON-negotiable"), it is usually only AFTER one full session/hour has been successfully completed and PAID for that they will start "negotiating" and perhaps cut you some slack and come down or offer better terms. But that is also not very likely with these Porn Star Providers; They only want SERIOUS and committed customers and setting their rates so high and sticking by them seems to be, in their mindset, one way to "weed out" the jokers, weirdos, bums and Drug fiends, all of whom cannot afford such high rates. But if it were a deliberately inflated figure meant only to start the negotiating, it would/could very likely simply scare off otherwise legitustomers.

In marketing there is a practice of setting the price of something very high when you want to create a false impression of scarcity. I don't know if it has a cogent name, though.
In any event, the consumer is expected to consider himself 'priveleged' to use the product.

It's the same phenomenon as slapping a tag/label/logo on a pair of jeans, or a handbag, or a car, and then doubling the price. People start to associate the logo with "Expensive", hence "Exclusive", hence "Denoting Status". Of course, porn whores themselves are particulary succeptible to this type of status-symbol branding.

This is quite true. Plenty of my whore mongering associates would gladly drop $1500/hr on Dru Barrymore just for the bragging rights.
