This opens up an interesting angle for me. I've had a couple of conversations with people in the industry about camera cell phones and video phones, and here's a thought for you.

Visit any of the sites that offers free downloads of shit recorded on these phones, particularly the video ones. Some of the shit these kids are getting up to makes me look back at my own youth and wonder what went wrong, and I was no angel. There are so many gangbangs going on with 18 years olds getting it on and recording it, there's no way manufactured porn can compete.

What does that mean? Well, it means we're looking at a generation of people who will not buy porn in the way it's currently marketed and created. Not a hope in hell. I think the industry is in serious danger of getting caught with its pants down, pardon the pun.

Quite a few friends of mine have talked about banning their kids (teenagers) from using myspace, flickr, etc. I always try to talk them out of it.

First, do you really want them getting in trouble after they've moved out and the parents have no control, when the parents can't advise and when any legal problems are when they aren't a juvenile any more?

Secondly, I argue that myspace and flickr are the best tools since little brothers and sisters for a parent to watch what their kids are up to. Parents can learn an amazing amount about what their kids are really up to by reading the myspace page and checking all of their friend's pages - that sort of thing (even if the kid keeps their page innocent scanning their friend's pages tells the story). It's like having a hidden microphone...

Of course if the parents aren't willing to spend the time to scan myspace, don't bother keeping track of the kid's friend's names ... flickr & myspace aren't gong to cause a problem but merely document the results of bad parenting.

As far as the impact on the porn industry, it certainly means a continued influx of new talent. However, it also likely shortens the shelf life of said talent considerably. Of course, this has been going on for a while, but the days when names like Amber Lynn or Tracey Adams, etc. could dominate box covers for years are long gone. Branding via title or producer will have to take over for "oh, a new Aurora Snow film is out!"

It also means that the Ashley Blues of the world are going to find it much harder to stay in front of the camera long enough to land a deal that puts them behind it. Being able to stuff your fist down your throat or being willing to be pissed on are not going to be skills restricted to the dregs of the talent pool any more.
