I use Firefox and lately almost every time i reopen it i have to log back in to all my sites. I t used to remember my settings but doesnt seem to anymore. It has gotten so irritating these last 3 months that my web surfing/forum interaction has suffered. I set cookies to be quashed only when they expire and some other tweaks but nothing works. Anybody have any ideas what it could be?

Firefox has an annoying habit of randomly resetting options. I hate it because sometimes it's hard find what was reset. Try this: Tools -> Options -> Security -> Remember Passwords for sites.

Now if you check that it'll also remember your bank account, so you might want to add that to the exceptions. Other than that, make sure the browser isn't deleting all the cookies at the end of every session,.

To set the cookies
Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> Cookies . Check Accept Cookies. Keep Until They Expire.

There's a firefox message board.

If that doesn't work, you can always uninstall - reinstall.

Which version are you running? Mine was auto-updated yesterday to 2.0.0.2 without so much as a reason. This seems more stable.

Yeah conky- I was hoping that the update would solve the problem but no such luck. I wonder if one of my virus/internet prot. programs might be doing it. I 'll have to see what they say.

What version of FireFox? Any extensions? Check the Exceptions for both Cookies and Passwords to make sure that the sites aren't being deliberately skipped for some reason.

after you uninstall firefox, try deleting the directories it leaves behind.

One is in:

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

Another is at:

C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla

a lot of times these directories will leave info about the settings. Just remember to copy the bookmark.html file because it has bookmarks in it.

uninstall/reinstall only removes and reinstalls the program. Any settings, extensions, themes, etc, are unchanged. See have2cit's message to clean out everything.

I usually recommend renaming that directory rather than deleting it at first, just in case there is a password or something in the original area you forget to save. Rename the "Mozilla" directory to something like "Old Mozilla".

The Password Save extension might be useful to easily see what the saved passwords are in case there's a hostname mismatch or such.

Don't forget to make sure the sites aren't somehow in the Exceptions tab for passwords - that would cause this symptom.

Get Opera. It's much better and faster than the new version of Firefox. Although, The new version of Firefox does have a built in Spell Checker.

Does Opera still have the ads? How about add-ons.

Opera got rid of the ads on the free version quite some time ago. I like Opera a lot but use Firefox because I can use the extensions to customize the shit out of it. My Firefox is currently running 24 extensions, about 20 of which I would not want to live without.
