VirtualBox is free. Run Ubuntu Linux inside of it, also free. Better than an anti-virus program...

I'm not sure what the "35 pass" is about but if it's erasing the disk that much it's waaaay overkill. One pass is going to defeat everyone but a manufacturer's lab and 5-7 passes should defeat even military intelligence labs.

If you're running an older filesystem like NTFS or FAT under Windows no problem, but more modern filesystems like ZFS won't erase with simple file overwrites - it has to be a disk erase to prevent the bad guys from recovering data.
