Spybot is very good, but you should always have two anti-spyware progs. I suggest adding Ad-Aware SE Personal. Other software you might consider are Zone Alarm (personal firewall), VTE (anti-virus) and Dr. WEB Cure It! (anti-virus and spyware). I'm currently running the latter two to see if they are improvements over what I'm already running.

Add DupDetector: "Dup Detector finds duplicate and near duplicate images by opening and reading image pixel data."
This is different than the aforementioned CloneSpy which finds exactly identical images (and videos) by comparing their file checksums.

However, not sure it's completely free based on the sites I've Googled...
Reminds me, somewhat, of another thingy for Firefox called DownloadThemAll:
"DownThemAll is fast, reliable and easy-to-use! It lets you download all the links or images contained in a webpage and much more: you can refine your downloads by fully customizable criteria to get only what you really want!"
I use it heavily on MP3 blogs which may feature a dozen or so separate MP3 links. I can customize the filter to only get ".mp3" files, and, bingo, single-click downloading of concerts from rbally.

Yes, it's freeware (Windows only). Here's the download link to Image Grabber II. Be advised though that the download site has a daily bandwidth limit.

I ripped some kewl GIF's off the net, but I want to resize them for avatars. How do I go about doing so, but maintaining the animated aspects of the file? Corel PSP-X apparently isn't capable of this.

Use Irfanview to breakdown the animated gif (into a folder of your choosing), then also use Irfanview to shrink (somewhat) the pictures, than use unFreez to renanimate the gifs...

AVG is free and is not a system hog. It does take a heck of a long time to scan though.
Norton's takes forever these days, too. I bought a copy of 2007, and the motherfucker takes over an hour to scan my system (approx. 75 mins), where my older version only took 45 to scan everything.

I don't have this problem (or I really haven't noticed it).
Here are my settings: Output file type = MPEG-1; Frame Rate = 30, Bitrate = 1150; "Use Constant Bitrate" is checked.
Sounds like a great program...but it freezes every time I try to join video files.
EDIT: OK, I got it to work and it is a great program. But if you have a slower computer, you may run into some problems.

Splitting large video files into smaller pieces that can be played independently of each other is a hold over from the days before highspeed internet access when people used to pay for their dial-up access by how much data they transferred. These days people who use premium usenet accounts still have a monthly transfer limit...an example would be 10 bucks a month to download 5 Gigs of data from the premium usenet provider's servers. Usually a still image is also posted with samples of snapshots from the movie with time stamps. This allows people to download the segments of the video clip they are interested in and ignoring the rest if they want and that saves them bandwidth to use for more content relevant to their own interests. Alot of videos and media that are distributed via the internet gets stated on usenet or IRC and using smaller pieces of autonomous data is just easier to move around and work with than larger complete files.

This is a spill over from my anime/hentai interests but if you download alot of video files then CCCP is nice to have installed as it pretty much eliminates the need to keep searching for codecs. Quote:

By browsing history do you mean the temp files and history left on your local machine, or are the ips you visit being tracked by a company router or something?
If the former there are tons of utilities built in to your browser to delete all that shit each time you close the browser. If you use Firefox, don't let it store passwords and don't let it never store passwords either, as it keeps a list of those sites as well- just hit "not now".
If your problem is the latter, then go to a site like www.proxytop.net and use one of those free proxy servers to browse through. Your company sees your connection to the proxy server, but not to the sites you visit from the proxy server.
What kind of trouble are you getting into, if you care to tell.

Hey Lou, I think you're being paranoid, but as long as you've scrubbed your own system and scanned for keyloggers, the other main option companies have is running reports against the firewall/router/proxy server logs (most companies don't bother). Bornyo's proxying idea is a step in the right direction but traffic is still traversing the internal network in clear text - again, it only matters if they're bothering to scan - most don't. For a few bucks a month you can get a secure web-based proxy/VPN which means browser activity is tunneled/encrypted. That's a long way to go just to keep up on some porn talk though.
If all else fails, walk up to Carl, grab a fistful of her shirt, get in real close and say "This whole office - this WHOLE office can smell your shit breathed lobster pot. Wash that shit."

It should work with galleries you can access with your web browser. However, there are sites that block downloaders, and it doesn't currently support the image.html (shtml) tag.
This program downloads individual galleries with the added ability to change/append file names. It also allows the download of multiple galleries thru a url list function.

I didn't see anything mentioned above about truly erasing browser history, if that's what you meant by "erase the past". I've used Window Washer to remove all traces of browsing from various computers for some friends. It is pay software, but works really well. It also has the ability to purge the traces of the deleted files from disk afterwards, ensuring that they cannot be recovered. It can also be scheduled to run at various intervals on its own (eg. every half hour, or every time you close the browser), which some of the other solutions couldn't do.
There are a few similar options for free ( this one, and also CCleaner), but some of the extra features made Window Washer worth paying for to my friends.

Duck - we had a seperate convo outside this thread. I agree Window Washer and CCleaner are both good. There's definitely no need to PAY for this kind of util anymore - something to blow out browser files, temp files, index.dat (retains lots of history even after you delete-all in browser), registry, MRU, etc. Yet if people do a google search for this type of util, they're assaulted with pages of scamware that wants money to do the same thing.

I have another solution that I also want to write up a how-to on for XPT -- this would let people carry a disposable virtual environment around on a USB stick, and they can co-opt an existing workstation's resources temporarily and surf in absolute safety (barring a hardware keylogger, or sniffer / proxy logs at work). This has many more uses than just porn, and I think working in this way would help people avoid cleaning work or other unsafe machines.
You talking about Sandboxie? If not I was going to mention it - same concept. Ideal for adult browsing or just anyone with privacy issues. For those that don't know, it sets up a virtual environment isolated from the operating system, and all the cookies, downloads, history, activity are sequestered in this isolated environment. If the sandbox detects malware or viruses, or if you want to 'reset' the virtual environment for any other reason, it only takes seconds to start fresh. Much better than having a regular browser stashing historical data and files all over your harddrive.

Hah - truth told, I think taking a virtual smoke break and checking in at the adult forum from work is far less impact on the economy than the hours per day the average sexetary wastes at the office. I see the reports - all the shit they're up to. Shoe and purse shopping, lane bryant, writing novels to their girlfriends about how last night's date went. Their stats blow way past what the guys waste time on (espn, fantasy football, etc) by a factor of 10 to 1. If anyone needs cracking down on, it's these hen.

Neither ext-3, etc-4 or NTFS are remotely fully functional. The architectures are antique, right out of the 1980s era.
Lack of snapshots, lack of end-to-end data integrity checking, the need for fsck/chkdsk utilities, lack of reliable data recovery with redundant datasets, etc, etc, etc.
Linux has plans for BTRFS ("Butterface") that will be a modern design but that's a ways off. Microsoft talked about upgrading from NTFS 2-3 years ago but apparently couldn't pull it off.
My point is, data "shredder" utilities may not be careful enough to work right, and definitely won't right on newer schemes.

I understand your argument. It is certainly relevant for those that require this kind of hand-holding.
On the other hand, many of us Linux/BSD users have not found a legitimate use for it.

It is interesting to note that some Linux distros have offered the XFS filesystem experimentally. But it is difficult to get the OS to boot on it, even for us experienced code writers!

It can be done, especially if you write 0's, 1's, or some other predictable pattern.
At the analog level writing a 1 or 0 doesn't make the bit go all the way to absolute 0 or 1 but just far enough that the electronics on the disk can decide between 1 or 0, just like emptying a glass of water still leaves behind a few drops but it's "empty" and definitely not full.
Spooks can replace the electronics on the disk and read the level of each bit. If overwritten by 0 you then set the 0-vs-1 threshold very low to read the shadow of what used to be there.
It's analogous to reading pencil & paper writing that's erased - it looks blank but if you at very faint markings - perhaps making them brighter in Photoshop - it can be done.
It requires a lot of very expensive equipment and knowledge of how that disk works. The R&D labs of the drive makes are probably the only ones who can, and they aren't going to get into it just for the fun of beating a challenge.
Writing 0 a bunch of times moves the bit's value so close to absolute 0 that the shadow of the previous value can't be seen. Writing a random data pattern twice means that you can't tell which way the bit was "leaning" before, ie, can't make the assumptions needed.
If you're surfing the web for porn on the employer's notebook the "dd" of 0 in his example will destroy the evidence. If the NSA was convinced bin Laden's address was there they could still get it, but short of that it's safe.
If I don't see a naked tit in this thread soon I'm moving it to AWOP.

After these twenty-seven steps are completed, four final random overwrites follow.
