Actually, I've seen articles comparing Britney to Michael Jackson as a financial train wreck in the making. She may have assets but she has liabilities too, and major expenses from the staff and various hangers-on.
This is more up Willie D's alley than mine, but I wouldn't be surprised if the divorce isn't so much about him getting hold of her assets as it is about him wanting to avoid her liabilities.
In Texas judges can and sometimes do force parents in child-custody cases to undergo drug testing. If California allows that then by pursuing custody she runs the risk of the judge having the bailiff take her to a hospital for a blood sample...
