I don't understand how people can be happy within an organized religion, conforming to a set of doctrines written thousands of years before they were born, many of which can't even be applied to life in the 21st Century.

I am proud of my religion, but I interpret/apply it differently than Mr. Ford.

I find the wisdom and debates of those of my people that lived before me aid in my ethical behavior and assist me in choosing my actions. While the world was completely different, the true issues remain the same - "There's nothing new under the sun."

I have a deep belief that I am charged to behave ethically - my behavior is the practice of my devotion. And, those around me can see my example and choose to follow it, improve upon it or completely ignore it.

So, I believe I am NOT charged to compel anyone to agree with me. Each of us is a free agent. There is not one set "deal", not one "path", not one and only one "way".

Like Rabbi Hillel, I believe that my faith boils down to "Love your neighbor as you love yourself".

And, honestly I feel Mr. Ford practices this fully. It's just, very sadly, that he hates himself.
