This is science my friend, and a science that humanity is going to HAVE to come to terms with within the next few years.

There are two problems, Rob:

1. Biology (aka breeding).
2. Religious people not accepting any other Science.

Those people aren't going to stop breeding. They'll kill each other in larger chunks over silly differences, but they aren't going to stop. They're starving in most of the world, and it isn't stopping them.

They are still fighting "evolution" in the schools.

Earth is like a great popular restaurant and what it needs is more turnover not less!

i agree on some points and disagree with others.

Yes, people will keep breeding there is no reason why they shouldn't. If we are unable to handle population issuse, feeding and housing within this century we do not deserve to continue as a race. Thats one of the points of the Singularity... either man will reach a new age of technology and existence... or be destroyed by that which he has created. Those of us on the positive side of it seek to live. Weather it involve colonizing Mars and the Moon, (things that Dr. Stephen Hawking thinks is an imperative to mans survival as a species anyway) we will control the space issue.

As far as the religious ones... they can have thier space.. they can live, they can die, they can cry about all the technology and man playing God... But they can do nothing about it... the motion has been set in place.

As far as us needing more turnover... i disagree. mind you eliminating diseases and extending the human lifespan to an indefinite point is not going to eliminate death. Some people will choose to die, people will still die in accidents and explosions and the like. But we may one day have the ability to upload our consciousness into a computer system for storage by using synapse mapping, we may be able to transplant brains into new bodies... or synapse patterns into artificial bodies. The whole point is... death itself may be obsolete by the turn of the next century.

To prove how fast Accelerating change is coming 45nm process microchips were not "scheduled" until 2010... by this year they will be on the market, 25nm chips will be out by 2010 or so.... those were not scheduled till 2016. mark that with the fact that Intel has made an 80 core processor... that uses less power than a current quad core.
