Yes they definitely do. That's what flight surgeons are for on the physical side (flight surgeons aren't there to keep them healthy, they're there to wash them out if they're not). I'm not sure what the psych guys are called but they do evals before, during, after ... She's not the only one whose career is done.

The Shuttle is an incredibly expensive machine that can't be replaced and astronauts are dime-a-dozen these days. They let her fly last summer - she's not a fringe newbie not seriously up for a flight.



I just found out they *don't* do ongoing psych evaluations any more. Amazing ... I think even from here I can hear Deke Slayton cursing about incompetents in his grave.

They get one eval as part of qualification when hired and an eval before a long-term space station stay. But she was an arm operator and didn't get any eval after qualifying.

Now, after she's back in Clear Lake after all this, they're giving her another eval. The cow's out of the barn guys.
