Jeez, wrong again, Ben. Your personal experiences with herpes simplex are quite different from the issues of genital herpes, hpv, and std's in the industry.

I don't know about the other STDs but I don't think herpes simplex type 1 and 2 would be much different. I'm pretty sure I know when I would be in a contagious state. Otherwise probably everyone would be affected unless people with the virus weren't allowed to touch anyone else. Even when no sore is present I have other symptoms like tingling and itchiness in a certain area around my mouth and probably a fever as I always feel like crap at the time
So I think it would be rare if anyone with the virus passed it on unknowingly. Also I don't think anyone would particularly feel like having sex anyway while having a herpes "episode"
