I've read about "viral shedding" that can happen even without the presence of a sore but I believe I do know when this happens - sometimes I might not have a sore but somewhere on my lip is sore and itchy. I don't know how they did their testing but i'm pretty sure I know when there's a spot on my lip that is contagious regardless of there being a sore there or not so I don;'t think you should be so worried about this method of tranmission - besides apparently its estimated that 90% of the US population have herpes anyway
