And if you live in an apartment, DON'T HAVE A MEDIUM OR LARGE DOG. IT IS CRUEL AND THEY NEED YARDS TO RUN IN, but no your vanity thought it'd be cool to have a dog despite your 800 sq ft 'living' space. I love dogs and hate to see them in pain.

Don't let them eat Cat Food either. The beagle we had when I was a teenager kept getting into the cat's bowl when no one was looking and ended up eating nothing but cat food for a long, long time. Somebody took her on a walk at least once a day too. Couldn't get her to slim down for nothing though. She died a couple of years ago though, got really slim and weak when she got sick because her body was eaten up with cancer.
