From my understanding - and personal experience - some of the old tricyclics are even worse ... far worse.

An "interesting" method used to differentiate recurrent major depression from bipolar II is actually to give the patient ever increasing doses of an SNRI and see if the condition is aggrevated. In my case I went into an ever-faster cycling.
