But, it’s not clear that it’s any less likely that Lara infected Darren. There are rumors Lara was working with a private-doctor HIV test, not an AIM test. I haven’t heard anything about the reliability of Lara’s tests.

It takes some time for HIV to show up in tests after infection. If Darren is infected shortly before returning to the US, or if Lara is infected before coming to the US, tests taken when they hop off the bus can easily be negative. They may become contagious before their next test.
