Unfortunately, yes. There are two major strains of HIV (one of which is rare in the US) and 50+ subtypes. It is suspected that an infection by multiple types destroys the immune system much more rapidly than an infection by a single HIV virus type. HIV+ people really are supposed to worry about further exposure to avoid getting infected by multiple types.
