His biggest achievement was... pardoning Richard Nixon?! WTF?

Well, I guess that's what we do best in this country. After the most amazing of fuck-ups, we just sweep it all under the rug and move on. Unfortunately, that pile of shit under the rug is getting so high it's taking over the room.

Carter was the first actually elected president to serve after Nixon, and the power structure was bound and determined to rein in the power of the Executive, so Carter wasn't allowed to do anything on the domestic front. A fact that most conservatives use to belittle his presidency.

Now we have the exact opposite situation, with the power of the Executive run roughshod over the Judiciary and the Congress.

Oh well. The pendulum just keeps swinging...
