A infant's toes are very, very small and these things can rip apart rats!! They are physically capable of chewing off a baby's toes.

But for a variety of reasons it isn't very plausible. Like it wouldn't be very quick and the parents would have to be completely deaf not to hear the screams!

I totally agree, even if the ferret did start chewing on the kid, how wouldn't the parents have heard something? It sucks that this kid's gonna be permanently disfigured because of neglect.
