Was Tony Montanas HIV+ discovery taken with the same amount of concern? Was the industry put on near 'stand still' then like it is now??
Just curious to see how this situation was handled then as compared to today.

The reaction is about the same,but the main deference is how organized AIM seems to be.In the past it seemed like no one knew what the fuck was going on.This time around AIM seems to be on top of it,posting secondary lists and keeping everyone informed.

It's a huge improvement over the Marc Wallice disaster. Then it took two or three HIV+ cases before it seemed everyone realized there was A Real Problem, and even then there were people almost shrugging it off "I hear Tricia does drugs" and "I bet Brooke Ashley hooks".

It was so bad that Luke Ford of all people became the hero by outing Marc Wallice (you know things are bad when Luke saves the day for you).

Gene Ross is the hero of this one... running the story first.

Luke didn't figure out by himself that Marc Wallice was infecting everyone. Someone has to have known and told Luke. I figure "Deep Throat" was someone at Elegant Angel who didn't want to get fired for rocking the boat.

Gene doesn't get any extra credit for beating everyone else by an hour or two. Luke gets credit because had Luke not made such a huge fuss Patrick Collins might not have forced Marc to take an honest HIV test, and Marc might very well have kept infecting more girls. Seriously it was that bad - Luke didn't just report on the outbreak; he (and his "Deep Throat") was the key to stopping it then and not later.
