Ok, here's a geeky question but I want to find the answer. I was at a museum the other day and the artwork was labeled with descriptive text that appeared to be actually printed on the wall. Not large, just regular - maybe 16pt font size text - that was right on the wall. I assume it could be, and probably was, printed on some paper then transferred to the wall.

Anyone have an idea how this is achieved? Wish I had gotten a picture, but some of you may know what I am talking about..

There are label makers that will apply the letters to a piece of cellophane in reverse. Then you rub the text on to what you want. There are also printers that are easily moved to where you want and will print on about any surface.

I think you're looking for a version of "Kroytype" machine.

Or maybe something like this. The kroytype comes out on a clear tape that is almost invisible, but if you're sure there was no tape it'd have to be something like this.

Mah Daddyo fixed and sold a lot of printing press that created those darn things. He'd come home with a bunch of cool gold and silver ones you could use. They're pretty friggen awesome. You gotta rub really hard though, I always used a hard lead pencil.

you should check out www.wallwords.com or www.wonderfulgraffiti.com. both sites have cool removable transfers for walls, available in any word or quote, in many colors, different fonts, etc. i have them all over my house, because i am a fontwhore. maybe what tony saw at the museum is something like this?

I have a Kroy type machine. It prints letters on clear sticky tape. Then you peel it off and stick it on just like scotch tape.
