SEATAC, Wash. — There will be no more Christmas trees at Sea-Tac Airport this season after the Port of Seattle received at least one complaint about them. For more than 25 years, the airport has celebrated the holidays with Christmas trees over its entrances. But overnight, the Port of Seattle ordered all 15 trees removed.
The Port allowed "holiday" decorations to remain but decided to take down all the Christmas trees after a Seattle rabbi complained they were offensive.
The Port of Seattle says it had little choice. It says the Seattle rabbi with the Central Organization for Jewish Learning hired a lawyer and threatened to sue if the airport did not erect an eight-foot menorah to balance the message of the Christmas trees.
An airport spokeswoman says the two sides could not reach an agreement before the lawsuit was to be filed. So the trees were removed instead.
KOMO-TV reported that upset airport workers have started a campaign urging people to call the Port of Seattle to complain.
Apparently the Rabbi is now upset over the decision by the airport to remove the trees, and now wants them restored ( No doubt to avoid looking like the biggest tool in history ). The Rabbi says this "isn't what he wanted", and he didn't understand why the airport couldn't simply erect a menorah. Well... that's because there are more than TWO fucking religions in the world dumbass! And also because you threatened to sue... which means the airport had to make a decision that would protect themselves from the possibility of future suits. So it was either take down the trees, or erect a monument to every major faith in the world. Guess which one was cheaper?
I know this is just another one of those extreme cases the press likes to cover in order to get people heated... but it just points out how fucking short-sighted people can be. Just like the woodenheads who say "What's wrong with just having one minute of organized prayer in the classroom?" Because it would mean allowing expression of every faith, and thereby seriously impede the ability of schools to function as they were intended ( ie. as academic institutions, not churches ). So no, having xmas trees in an airport is not analagous to religion in classrooms. There's no reason why public facilities can't acknowledge the fact that this country's culture and traditions are largely Christian traditions, without invoking specific references to Christ or the Bible. They were fucking trees!!! Someone please find this guy and kick him in the orthodox nads.
