I agree. I'm not saying that it's right to use the word in a derogatory manner, but it's just a word.... like faggot, fuck, or cunt.... which are also inflammatory words that people go apeshit about.

If one specific word upset me that much, then that's my problem for letting it get to me.

I'm sorry, but I also don't agree with the philosphy that certain words are ok for certain races, and not others. I think that kind of mentality segregates the races even more.
