take "new jack city". less than ten million to make, grossed about 60 million to a limited audience in the box office and rentals and i'm too lazy to tack on signifigant-licensing $ hbo probably paid. that's still a tidy, tidy prof
hef would have creamed himself over the roi if he'd just shelled out for blaxploitation instead of clubjenna.
and that's a pretty cheesedick movie that i'm just too lazy to find any kind of foreign box-stuff for.
but basically, the profit from a movie where ice-t tells wesley snipes "i wanna shoot you so bad my dick's hard" is really worth more than jenna's company
i'm being very lazy, i'm not sure what cj sold for or what playboy looks like quarter2quarter, mind you. it's just allah/my gut guiding me to truth
That may be the case, I didn't research the numbers either, but between DVD sales, Rental, VoD, and pay-per-view, porn probably comes in at a very close second to the average amount made by non-porn movies. I'm not talking specifically about big-budget mainstream movies, but the majority of movies that come out in a given year.
Independant movies, and movies from smaller production houses greatly out-number the amount of blockbusters that come out in each year... yet they somehow still manage to get press coverage, reviews, and whatnot.
All i'm saying, is mad props to the adult industry for organizing their own red carpet events, to showcase what they've done. It's great pr, and great for adult business overall.
