This past Saturday I was hanging out in the hotel room of my friend (Adult Film Superstar and former gubernatorial candidate for the state of California) Mary Carey, when my phone started ringing like crazy. Mary had just made one of the most selfless decisions ever as she decided to pull out of the Governors' race so she could take her of her ill mother. My phone was almost dead and I could not answer, but I was not worried as the calls were from my best friend and business partner. It was almost 5 pm and I thought he was making sure I would make it to our bar by 6 pm. After the fifth or so call I borrowed Mary's phone to see what he wanted. He told me to turn on the news because his house was on fire! I have been staying in the third floor of his house because the condo I am getting has squatters in it and it is very hard to evict people living in the City of Baltimore. I thought he was kidding at first, but I could tell from the sound his voice he was not. I quickly told Mary what was going, said goodbye, left the hotel and jumped in a cab. The cab ride was only ten minutes long but it seemed like the cabbie could not go any slower. When we got to the top of his street it was blocked off and fire trucks and police cars were every where. I ran down the street and saw my best friend talking to the fire chief while tons of smoke was billowing out of the house. The fire had somehow started in the attic in the crawl space between the attic and roof and the whole roof of the third floor was ablaze. If I had not been with Mary who knows what would have happened to me .
My best friend was very distraught as a ton of his possessions and his house were up in flames. Luckily no one was hurt. It was at that point that I realized how materialistic and concerned about appearances I have become. I wear custom made suits and shirts, plus I have more Versace and Cavalli clothes than most Hollywood starlets, none of that matters as I know and realize that things like that can so quickly go up in smoke and have no real value, I may have lost a few expensive items in the fire but I will not be replacing them with more overpriced trendy designer clothes. Instead I am going to do everything to help my best friend rebuild his life. It is funny that in a few short moments of tragedy you find out who your real friends are and what really matters in life. For now on I am going to follow Mary's lead and do just that.
