Its amazing how quiet D-Burg has gotten on this issue.
This was the worst Postseason EVER, in terms of my usual flurry of bets and subsequent customary success. Since 1992, after graduating and moving out to Cali, I always found a way to get to either Vegas (or RENO, now that I live up North) and bet on the postseason. Before this year, I was 11-3 in Picking American League Champions and 10-4 in picking National League champs, and I had picked 9 of the last 14 World Champions...I had been well in the BLACK in terms of my bets and winnings.
This year was awful
I made it to Reno last Tuesday (october 3) just before the playoffs started, and I placed bets on all four first round series, as well as a couple "extended/Futures" bets for both Leagues Pennants. I did NOT place any bets on the projected World Series champion (thankfully.) By Wednesday Evening (October 4), late, I knew I was in Fucking deep shit! I could just tell, by the way teams were playing and the spirit/chemistry being displayed.
Lets face it: in Baseball, in a Short Series (best of 5), ANYTHING is possible, whereby even the shittiest Teams in the league (see Kansas City Royals) can beat the best teams 3 in a row or 3 out of 4. It happens all the time during the regular Season, and even happened last weekend of the season, when KC swept the now-red-hot Tigers 3 in a row when the Tigers were trying to snatch the Division Title from Minnesota. And of course, it works the other way, when a Quality Team like the TWINS, Dodgers or even the Padres (with all that pitching) go Flatter than Leah Luv and die in 3 games.
All in all, I lost a decent chunk of change on my bets...normally I dont get upset at losing money, but to be as WRONG as I was,
Don't take it too badly most everyone, including me, had the Yankees going all the way. It would have been an even bigger disaster if the Tigers fell to the A's. Not surprised as to the current standings in the NLCS except I would have guessed the mets would be leading the series. The Cardinals are benifitting from Larussa's vast post season experience. Go Redbirds!
